Emily Cheng (she/they) – Head Counselor
North Potomac, MD
University of Maryland, College Park, 2021 & 2023
Camper: 8 years (2010-2017)
Counselor: 3rd year (2018 & 2019)
Emily is heading into her second and final year in the Higher Education/Student Affairs Master’s program at the University of Maryland! They work as a graduate assistant at UMD and intern at Georgetown University, where they enjoy working with and supporting college students. Emily is a lover of dancing, going to the gym, nature walks, and all things Bangtan. She’s currently watching Hospital Playlist, but send some more K-drama recs their way 🙂
As someone who basically grew up at camp, Emily’s favorite time of the year is definitely the last week of July. They met some of their closest friends at camp and looked up to the counselors that always made her feel welcomed. They are super excited to return as a co-head counselor with Maddie, because she’s passionate about maintaining this close-knit community for Asian American youth. They’re really easily entertained, like really, so if you ever need someone to laugh at your jokes, find Emily! She can’t wait for another memorable week with new and returning faces!
Maddie Tchong (she/her) – Head Counselor
Virginia Tech, 2022
Camper: 4 years (2013, 2015-2017)
Counselor: 2nd year (2019)
Maddie is a recent graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelors of Science in Business Information Technology and a concentration in cybersecurity and a minor in Chinese Studies. Maddie will be starting her big girl job the week after camp in Herndon, so this is her last official summer 🙁 In her free time, Maddie is an avid bubble tea connoisseur and country line dancer. She also really enjoys crocheting (Gee! What a grandma hobby!) and hobby jogging (her knees do not appreciate this).
Camp has been such a big part of Maddie’s life, in fact, she wrote about WMACS for one of her college essays! She’s always looked forward to camp and has been so fortunate to have met so many wonderful and influential people, whether that may be fellow campers or their past counselors. As Media back in 2019, Maddie had such a fun and fulfilling summer improving relationships with returning campers and creating new ones with first-year campers which influenced her decision in returning to camp and serving as co-head with Emily. She hopes that she can be that figurehead to campers as those before her once were for her and cannot wait for a week of camp filled with endless laughter and memories.
Clement Lee (he/him) – Counselor
University of Maryland, 2024
Camper: 4 years (2015-2018)
Counselor: 1st year
WMACS has always been Clement’s favorite week of the year. Some of Clement’s closest friends today are from WMACS. He has formed a lot of core memories from it and wants to spread his love and passion for camp.
As a camper, Clement was a notorious prankster. If you work hard to win those night market tickets, you might be able to purchase a prank kit courtesy of Clement. He once sacrificed space in his suitcase to pack booby trap pranks instead of bringing clothes to wear!
Clement loves to do card magic in his free time and if you come find him during midnight snack, he might show you a move or two. He also loves to play baseball and volleyball and will give you lessons anyday if you ask. He currently studies Computer Science at the University of Maryland.
Jennifer Sheng (she/her) – Counselor
University of Virginia, 2023
Camper: 9 years (2011-19)
Counselor: First time!
Jennifer is currently a rising fourth year at the University of Virginia studying Mathematics and Computer Science with a Psychology minor. While at first glance her majors may look daunting, fear not, as she does more than just beep boop beep boop on the computer or calculator all day. In her free time, she enjoys baking, graphic design, spoken word poetry, and the occasional Wordle/crossword puzzle. She also loves the periodic Netflix binge and exploring new TV shows, movies, and music so send any recommendations her way 🙂
WMACS has been a part of Jennifer’s life for as long as she can remember. During her time as a camper, she loved getting to come back each year to reconnect with old friends and meet new faces along the way. From running around doing team activities to chatting over xiaoye with everyone, some of Jennifer’s fondest memories are during her years at camp. After two long summers without it, Jennifer is eager to jump back into the fun and excitement all over again and can’t wait for all that’s in store this summer!
Jeffery Chern (he/him) – Counselor

Jeffery knows that WMACS is the best week of the year, every year. Jeffery missed WMACS so much (especially after COVID) that he had to come back again! He looks forward to planning the BEST WEEK EVER!!!!
Miranda Ma (she/her) – Counselor
Connecticut College, 2024
Camper: 4 years (2015-18)
Counselor: my 1st year!
Miranda is currently finishing her sophomore year at Connecticut College. She is majoring in music and also plans on minoring in psychology or sociology. A fun fact is that Miranda has released two of her original songs on all streaming platforms! You can find her on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Youtube and more by searching up her name “Miranda Ma” or the titles of her songs “Accent Boy” or “Separation Anxiety”. Some of Miranda’s other favorite things include her favorite movie: La La Land, her favorite animal: flamingos, her favorite flavor of bubble tea: honeydew milk tea and her favorite T.V. show at the moment: Selling Sunset!
As a camper, WMACS will always have a special place in Miranda’s heart. Now, she is beyond excited to continue being a part of WMACS as a counselor and making sure all campers have the best camp experience like she has had. Miranda’s favorite activity at WMACS would be the night market because there are so many fun activities to do and of course, yummy boba!! There is something for everyone to enjoy at the WMACS camp and Miranda can’t wait to meet all the new and returning campers this summer! The countdown begins… 🙂
Ashley Hsu (she/her) – Counselor
George Mason University, 2025
Camper: 2 years (2017-2018)
Counselor: 1st year
Ashley is currently studying Nursing at George Mason University and plans to graduate in May 2025. She is currently a medical assistant at Dr. Benson Yu’s office in Fairfax, VA. During her free time, Ashley enjoys taking care of her four guinea pigs, watching K-drama, traveling out-of-state to try yummy foods, and hanging out with friends. Ashley also has an obsession with stuffed animals, especially bears, so keep your stuffed animals safe or it might go missing!
Although Ashley has only been at WMACS as a camper for two years, it is her favorite event of the year, other than her birthday, because she gets to come back to all of her friends and meet new people every year! She is so excited to finally come back as a counselor and join the counselor team to execute an amazing time for campers this year!
Justin Wu (he/him) – Counselor

Camper: 11 years (2006-2016)
Counselor: 4th year (2017-2019)
Justin is a graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelors in Information Systems. Despite that degree, Justin to this day does not know exactly what an information system is and could not define it for you! Currently, he is working his first job as a Strategy Consultant at IBM Federal. During his free time, Justin loves to go to the gym, keep up with current events through research and youtube, socialize through online gaming, and document his avid foodie life.
As someone who has been active in the WMACS community for the past 16 years, Justin believes that camp has shaped his life in various aspects, including his friend group, sense of community, social skills, and much more! Justin believes that the relationships and skills learned at WMACS are everlasting and still make an impact on his character to this day! As a counselor, Justin found the experience so fulfilling that despite saying he’s in his last year every year, he keeps coming back!
Belinda Lin (she/her) – Counselor

Camper: 5 years (2014-2017)
Counselor: 2nd year (2019)
Belinda is a recent graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelors in Computer Engineering. She will be starting work in August, so camp will be her last week of freedom. When she’s bored, she likes to try new things, bother her siblings, or sleep.
At a whopping five feet, Belinda is proud to be the tallest of all counselors to ever be a part of WMACS. On that note, WMACS has always been a fond experience for Belinda and she can’t wait to create new memories with the campers this year.

After graduating, he continued to work at several Esports companies, an industry he continues to work in today. When not working, Ethan loves to game, play sports, and watch anything competitive.
Although it’s been awhile since he’s last been a counselor (2017), camp has always held a dear place in his heart. He is very excited to come back and revisit the camp that is responsible for creating so many of his life-long friendships.

I like to play basketball and I’m getting worse at Chinese yoyo with each passing year. When I’m bored, I like to play all kinds of video games and listen to K-Pop and Disney songs. I’m so excited to finally be back at camp this year and I hope you all are as excited as I am!
Kaitlin Sim (she/her) – Counselor
University of Maryland, College Park
Camper: 6 years (2013-2018)
Counselor: First year!
Kaitlin is currently pursuing a major in Computer Science and a minor in Leadership Studies at UMD. She has only one semester left before she graduates! Kaitlin likes trying new foods, watching shows and movies (Netflix, anime, kdramas, reality TV, Studio Ghibli), cute stationery, cute characters (Sumikko Gurashi, Gudetama, etc.), coloring books, traveling, embroidery, Minecraft, playing Indie video games, Indie/Indie-pop music, boba, the color pink, ice cream, her bed, and animals. Kaitlin used to play volleyball for several years but now is more interested in staying inside and doing arts and crafts.
Kaitlin loves WMACS and all the lifelong friends she has made at camp throughout the years. Some of her favorite camp memories are playing cards, board games, and UNO with other campers and also putting on face masks on the counselors at the time she was a camper. Kaitlin loves everything about camp and is excited to get to know each and every camper this year! You can ask her about anything, but please don’t ask her to speak Chinese.
Zachary Dou (he/him) – Counselor
University of Maryland, College Park – 2023

If you can’t find Zachary at home, he is most likely at his favorite place, Chipotle. Fun fact, Zachary hates socks.
Although it has been a while since he has done anything camp related, Zachary is joining the counselor team because WMACS is a place that he has had some of his most enjoyable memories at. He can’t wait to come back to camp as a counselor to help new campers have as much as he did.
Annika Meng (she/her) – Counselor
University of Maryland College Park 2025
Camper: 4 Years (2015-2018)
Counselor: First Year
Annika is a rising sophomore at the University of Maryland, where she is double majoring in Finance and Information Systems. In her free time, she enjoys watching too much anime (ask her for her myanimelist and she’ll happily provide), cooking, karaoke with friends, and exclusively playing ARAM. She doesn’t like rewatching movies, loves kiwis but is allergic to them, and is an avid fan of pandas and naps.
She is so excited for her first year as a counselor, and hopes to see both old friends and new faces at camp this year. She has made some of her fondest memories and many life-long friends at WMACS, and looks forward to being a part of this experience for campers this year!

George graduated from UMD in 2020 and has been working in tech consulting for the past 2 years. He spends his free time playing games, cooking, gymming, playing with his 2 kittens, and laying down while wasting the day away watching Youtube. Apart from that, he still aspires to someday complete the 10,000 calorie challenge.
He’s made it a personal goal for himself to get to know campers better this year, so don’t be afraid to come up and talk to him, and don’t be afraid if he comes up to talk to you first!

Mia graduated this past spring from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. She is currently job-hunting while juggling some freelance design jobs and her small business.
In her free time, she can be found binge watching anime, drawing, or napping. Fun fact: Mia loves to sleep. She once slept for 26 hours straight. That’s why every year at camp, she can be spotted with a Monster energy drink or two in hand. But the lack of sleep is worth it to her to see all the campers having fun!
