Raymond Bao – Head Counselor

Find me at: Movie party and gaming

Hi friends. I’m Raymond and I’m a recent graduate from the University of Maryland. Since I’m officially an old man now I have no shame in staying in bed all day listening to random podcasts. My full-time job this summer is playing Valorant when I’m taking a break from League and playing League when I’m taking a break from Valorant. I’m also always looking for some new shows to watch so hit me with suggestions. Staying at home for so long is a bit frustrating so I hope I can talk to a lot of you more through Discord!

Jocelyn Lee – Head Counselor

Find me at: Culture/topics and arts&crafts

Hey everyone! My name is Jocelyn and I just recently graduated from University of Maryland – College Park with a Bachelor’s in Animal Science. My plan after college is volunteering at the Smithsonian’s Zoo Vet Hospital so feel free to ask me about anything animal related 🙂 My favorite arts and crafts is origami cause I think it’s cool that you can make so many things from just a piece of paper and I love Taiwanese food from 鹽酥雞 to 蚵仔煎 (still warming up to 豬血 and 臭豆腐). This is my second year back as head counselor and I can’t wait to see and hang out with all you campers again!

What’s up! My name is Jeffery (or Jeff) and I am very excited to keep WMACS going during these weird times! I’ve been to camp as a camper for four years and this will be my first year as a counselor. I’m currently studying Supply Chain Management and Information Systems at the University of Maryland, College Park. During quarantine, I’ve been keeping myself busy by either watching shows/movies, getting sunlight outside, cooking, and occasionally gaming. I’ll be active in the movies and gaming channels and I hope to see you all there!

Megan Hu – Counselor

Find me at: Culture/topics and challenges

Hello hello! My name is Megan, I am currently a student at MC with a major in…………….actually I’m not really sure yet. This is my first year as a counselor but before that, I was a camper for six years where I bore witness to a plethora of different shenanigans from the Pokemon Go craze to frozen socks to face masks and nap time. Having superfluous amounts of free time due to quarantine has led to: subscriptions to Chinese pop culture news channels on YouTube, going down a rabbit hole of Chinese myths and all their different variations, and finally downloading Instagram on my phone. In regards to cooking Chinese food, I can say with 100% honesty that I’ve never burned down my house. I can’t wait to meet everyone and I look forward to all the shenanigans we’ll get up to this year!

(Virtually of course (๑>؂<๑))

I’ve been taking online classes over the summer. Rona szn has me bored out of my mind. Besides school I’ve been watching Netflix 24/7 currently binge watching Avatar. When I’m not, I’ll either try to cook (almost burnt down the house) or be facetiming the homies. Hit me up if you wanna houseparty lol. Can’t wait to be chillin with all of you through watching movies or talking to yall! Lets gooooo!

Jennifer Sheng – Counselor

Find me at: Movie party and arts&crafts

Hello hello! My name is Jennifer and I’m a rising second year at the University of Virginia studying Mathematics and Computer Science. I was a camper for nine years (wow, I know that’s a REALLY long time) but now I’m super excited for my first year as a counselor, even though this is definitely not what I had expected. During my seemingly endless time at home, I try to keep myself busy with random crafts and other artsy stuff, a little bit of cooking and A LOT of baking (honestly I could probably open up a bakery at this point), learning random new skills, and when all else fails, binge watching Netflix of course. Many of my favorite summer memories are from camp so I’m looking forward to all that’s in store this summer (even from home). This will definitely be a camp experience like no other so I can’t wait to see you all!

Although we aren’t able to see each other in person this year, I’m excited to e-meet you all and have a chill time!

Jason Chern – Counselor

Find me at: Movie party and gaming

Hey y’all! My name is Jason, I’m super excited to come back to WMACS quarantine edition! This is my 5th year(?) counselor at WMACS and I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park class of 2019. While stuck inside all day, I like to indulge myself in a lot of video games like Teamfight Tactics, but also likes to splurge on Netflix shows such as Avatar. Occasionally, when I’m bored, I’ll make the 15 minute drive to eat all the spicy tacos that I can get my hands on. At the end of the day, I look forward to connecting with campers. Whether it is hosting movie nights or playing video games, I am always down. Remember, socially distanced BUT NOT socially disconnected! <wow truly spectacular.

I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2019 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and currently working at a biotech company in Rockville, MD. I like to play basketball and I’m getting worse at Chinese yoyo with each passing year. When I’m bored, I like to play all kinds of video games and listen to K-Pop and Disney songs. I’m super bummed that we won’t get to see each other at camp this year, but y’all should look forward to what we have planned!

Ayeooo 大家好. My name’s Maddie Tchong, and I’m super excited to be back this summer! This’ll be my 2nd year back as a counselor, but 1st in quarantine edition. I’m currently a rising junior at Virginia Tech (#gokies) majoring in BIT and minoring in Chinese. Quarantine has led me to channel my inner grandma craftiness as well as stimulate my binge watching skills. Therefore… I can’t wait for our ~endless~ netflix parties and chats outside of our movie nights 🙂 Get hype y’all because this is about to be a summer to never forget!

I’m a rising senior at the University of Maryland, College Park studying Geography/Secondary Education with a minor in Sustainability. This will be my 3rd year as a counselor, and I’m so happy that Rona won’t completely ruin our summer plans together. Being at home for the past few months has got me studying, reading, working out, and bothering my family. I’ve also been watching a random assortment of Netflix shows (still can’t get over CLOY) but also spending more time reflecting on myself and the things I care about. So, I can’t wait to hang with you guys through watching movies/shows or sharing our thoughts about different topics! Things are crazy right now, but we’ll always be here so come thruuuuu

Before I was a counselor I was a camper for around 5-7 years (a lot, I don’t want to count). I’m currently taking two summer classes, but in my free time I’m probably working on my remote job with an Esports startup called Challengers Uprising. For leisure I really enjoy playing league, contending for bottom frag in Valorant, watching anime, or browsing various wikis (especially ATLA and anime wikis).

Hi! My name is Justin and I recently graduated from UMD with a degree in Information Systems! After college, I will be working full time in the DC area starting in November, BUT before that, I am excited to be part of the WMACS online community in the next few months. This will be my fourth year back as a WMACS counselor (I also spent 11 years as a camper) and I am excited to connect back with you all! In my free time, I like to binge anime (recently Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, and Avatar (both series)), exercise very occasionally (volleyball and dumbbells), watch TikTok videos all day, and lose with in League of Legends flex queue with my fellow counselors (shoutout to George, Raymond, Ethan and Jimmy). Hope to see you all soon!

Glenna Zhang – Counselor

Find me at: Culture/topics and gaming

Hi all! I’m Glenna and I’ve recently graduated from Cornell University with a double major in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science. This is an especially bittersweet year for me (and likely some of the other counselors) because this is my last year of camp, so I’m looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible virtually! I’m off to Seattle as my next step in life, so come say hi if you’re ever in the area. For now, I’m taking some time to relax, play some Catan and League, slowly build my Animal Crossing island, read some books, and watch some dramas. Please don’t hesitate to reach out about anything, and stay safe!

Julia Maa – Counselor

Find me at: Movie party and arts&crafts

Hi guys! My name is Julia and even though I’m sad I won’t be able to see all of your beautiful faces in person this year, I’m still super excited that we’ll be able to connect virtually and allow the WMACS love to continue. Just like everyone else, I’ve been watching a ton of shows- mainly ATLA (uncle iroh is my hero) and CLOY (insert finger hearts), and I just started binging criminal minds (Matthew grey gubler 😍 ). Please send me any show/movie recs! I also love making these DIY mini models/houses that take up way more time than I’d like to admit 😅 I can’t wait to catch up with all of you soon! Stay safe and remember to wash your hands folks 👍🏻

George Wu – Counselor

Find me at: Gaming

Hello my dudes – I’m George and I just recently graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Business and now, I’m taking this time between graduation and starting work to dedicate myself to gaming for AT LEAST 8 hours a day. I was a camper for 5 years and then became a counselor in 2017 and 2018, and although I wasn’t able to be a counselor last year, I’m excited to be back to reconnect with you guys online! Of course I, like the entire rest of the counselor team, am sad that we can’t hold camp in-person this year, but we can still make the most of what we have and hopefully recreate my favorite aspect of camp, which is bonding with other campers and counselors through fun activities or by just talking. Like I mentioned, I spend most of my quarantine days gaming (mainly League, TFT, and Valorant), so don’t be afraid to hit me up if you ever wanna play!

Aaron Zhao – Counselor

Find me at: Movie party

Hi. I’m Aaron. I’m a rising Junior at Duke University majoring in Biology (or Chemistry, or Neuroscience, or Computer Science, or Visual Media Studies). Ok. I don’t really know what my major is, but I’ll be obtaining a minor in Photography and a certificate in Arts of a Moving Image! Outside of academics, I dance with Duke Chinese Dance, sing with Duke Chorale, am a photography editor for Duke’s independent newspaper, and an intern for the Duke Anesthesiology Department. I love taking photos and will hopefully be taking a lot of awesome photos during camp! Here are some fun facts about Aaron:

I have a REALLY flexible tongue. I love crocs (I wear white and yellow crocs all the time, no matter the day, no matter the weather, I’ll be rocking ‘em). Cherries are my favorite fruit, but watermelon come in a close second. I have never ordered a burrito from Chipotle in my entire life.

Aaron can’t wait for camp. Although he was only a camper for a year, he can’t wait to come back and hang out with all you smiley people. I also don’t know why I switched from first to third person, eh.

Belinda Lin – Counselor

Hellooo! My name is Belinda and I’m a junior studying Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. I’ve been a camper for 4 years (I think) and this will be my 2nd year as a counselor. Social distancing has got me testing out new recipes, TRYING to learn a new computer language, picking veggies from my grandpa’s garden, accidentally breaking plants while playing volleyball indoors, possibly rewatching ATLA, and most definitely annoying my little sister ❤️ I can’t wait to connect with everyone at virtual camp – see ya sooon!!

Turnip profiting

Haikus are inefficient, so hello again! Although I was a camper for 8 years, I’ve only been a counselor for one. This would’ve been my last year as counselor before I leave for the inferior coast, so sad pandemic times. Although we can’t meet in person, I’m excited to meet you all online! I’ve secretly been thriving at home with all this cleaning, reading, and finally playing through my overblown Steam library! Oh and cultivating my lavender plant hehe. Please reach out to me if your island ever has turnip prices above 300! May the dodos bring us all together.

Jimmy Ho – Counselor

Find me at: Gaming

Hello everyone. My name is Jimmy and I’m a recent graduate at the University of Maryland, College Park, studying Computer Science with a minor in Philosophy. Outside of school, I enjoy playing volleyball, working out, and playing basketball (I’m better than Matt Tung. Make sure to remind him of that) (TF?). One of my main goals is being able to elevate myself higher off the ground.

I’ve been to camp for seven years as a camper and three years as a counselor. I can’t wait to come back again for another year!

Justin Pan – Counselor

Find me at: Movie party

Justin is super excited to have the opportunity to come back to WMACS this summer again! Double majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Justin recently graduated from UMD last year and moved to San Francisco, CA to start his new engineering job at Samsara, a tech start-up company specializing in developing Internet-of-Things sensors.

In his free time, Justin enjoys playing tennis, watching Taiwanese dramas, and practicing Chinese Yo-yo. Justin also enjoys singing, playing piano and playing ukuele as well! Justin’s favorite foods include all-you-can-eat KBBQ, all-you-can-eat sushi, all-you-can-eat hotpot, and ramen! You’ll probably catch Justin snacking throughout the week because eating is definitely one of his favorite past-times – he’s always in the mood for food. Justin is counting down the days until camp and is extremely excited to reconnect with old campers and meet all the new ones! Feel free to reach out to him anytime to talk about anything 🙂
